WEST CARROLLTON - West Carrollton firefighters will attempt to Fill the Boot during their annual Labor Day weekend fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The firefighters will be collecting donations from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5 at South Alex Road and Dixie Drive and at South Alex Road and Central Avenue.
Last year, the West Carrollton firefighters collected $11,095 during the campaign.
"Each year, we've beat our total from the year before," said Josh Whitehead, a West Carrollton firefighter and paramedic, who is coordinating the fundraising campaign.
"We hope to do that again this year," he said.
The firefighters will present a check during a 5:30 p.m. presentation Sunday, Sept. 5, at Wright State University for the Jerry Lewis Telethon.
"We urge drivers to be cautious and drive slowly in those intersections," said city Fire Chief Jack Keister.
Orange barrels will be placed in the roadways to notify drivers that the firefighters are in the area.
