Ventura County firefighters were sent Wednesday to help battle a destructive wildfire in Kern County, officials said.
Team joins firefight near Tehachapi
A strike team from the Ventura County Fire Department was sent early Wednesday to help fight the West fire near Tehachapi, said Capt. Ron Oatman, a department spokesman.
The blaze has destroyed 25 structures and burned 1,400 acres since it began Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
Assistance from Ventura County includes five staffed fire engines, a battalion chief and several support personnel, Oatman said.
On tuesday night, the Ventura City Fire Department sent a captain to help with the fight against the Bull fire in the Sequoia National Forest near Lake Isabella, said David Endaya, a department battalion chief.
That fire has destroyed several structures and burned 15,000 acres since it began Monday afternoon, Kern County officials said.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proclaimed a state of emergency in Kern County because of the fires, which have forced more than 2,300 people to evacuate, according to Kern County authorities.
